Mercury Tooth Fillings Are Poisonous

As reported in the news recently, the FDA has issued a final regulation classifying dental amalgam without calling for stringent precautions for pregnant women and children - even though last June a court settlement filed by the Consumers for Dental Choice required the FDA to withdraw claims of its safety from the Web site and issue an advisory indicating: "Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetuses."
The FDA has classified and taken the stand that the fillings are class II devices, which means the FDA is claiming that they are completely harmless. This is in direct contradiction of the conclusions by the FDA's very own panel of scientific experts, along with the findings of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). IAOMT is desperately trying to get the FDA to change the ruling and ban this substance from commerce and proceed with a mandatory recall on the product Mercury dental fillings contribute 2 to 3 times as much mercury to the human body compared to all dietary and environmental sources together.
For consumers, this new regulation by the FDA, is a total disaster. To allow companies to still sell and dentists to use a primitive form of fillings is a crime to say the least!
In a publication by FDA this past August, 2009, the ruling says there will be no warnings to patients that the mercury from the amalgam fillings is a reproductive toxin and a neurotoxin. That means pregnant women and children will still be subject to getting this poisonous material without their knowledge.
Every scientist will tell you that mercury is a poisonous neurotoxin that can cause permanent neurological damage to a child's developing brain and possibly even kill unborn children.
In response to consumer reaction to its new amalgam rule, the FDA immediately added a warning to its website that says . . . " "High levels of mercury vapor exposure are associated with adverse effects in the brain and the kidneys."
Unfortunately the FDA failed to take it to the next level and issue a warning to dental patients and parents of small children. The change still allows the main distributor of mercury amalgam (Henry Schein Inc) to market it to everyone.
If you look at the FDA's website, it still fails to warn consumers that young children and unborn babies are most susceptible to the effects of mercury. FDA doesn't want parents to know that how hazardous the substance is to the unborn child.
Keep in mind that if you have mercury fillings, you are exposed to toxins every day. Studies have shown that the toxins coming from the teeth transfer from the pregnant mother into every tissue of the unborn fetus. This in turn will cause the child once born to be subjected to further contamination from the mother's milk. If you want further information on mercury fillings, visit this website: ToxicTeeth.org/
It can only be assumed that FDA would rather be on the side of big business than taking recommendations from their own scientists as to the risks of these fillings. Think about it, this product is shipped to the dentist's office with a 'hazardous material' label and any leftovers are treated as hazardous with special instructions for disposal. Is this what you want placed in your mouth?
If you have any mercury tooth fillings, make sure you have a holistic dentist remove them. In the removal process you can be exposed to great amounts of harmful vapors if the dentist doesn't know what they are doing. So that's why it is important to have a qualified holistic or biological dentist take care of the task.

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)I have fillings from the 60's and 70's and I've never had them analyzed for content. Don't think I will either. I'm too cynical.
Great article Howard and certainly should be heeded by those to whom it applies. The FDA is like all other facts of government, at the call and whim of big business, money and special interests. Thanks, Joel . . . . .we all need to be our own 'health advocates' . . . just because of FDA and big business!
Excellent article Howard. I have a lot of fillings carried out in the UK dating from as early as around the mid 1950s and I presume they contain mercury. However, over the years I have had many fillings replaced and the dentist has never mentioned the subject but I do notice that in the last couple of years the silver colour of the amalgam has changed.I must ask my dentist about this on my next visit. I'm not sure that this is a subject discussed much here in the UK.
